- Gads, haven't you tired yet of whining? As have others stated before,
- since you feel that CMD overcharges, by all means, design, develop,
- produce, market AND advertise your own products! Perhaps THEN you will be
- in an informed position to talk; Mr. Cotton has consistently reminded us
- of the costs involved merely in research and development. If you can
- start your own medium-sized company, complete with engineers, programmers,
- sales staff, et al, and produce 40-meg hard drives for $100 each, AND
- still retain the marvelous level of compatibility that CMD HDs have, do so
- and you'll probably make some money. What is a fair return for the
- programmers who code the DOS? For the engineers who designed the SCSI
- controller? Simple economics dictate that CMD needs to charge a little
- bit more until they make back their R&D costs. CMD's certainly not
- getting rich off of their HDs. And even if they had a competitor, it
- would be ludicrous to think, if they manufactured a similar product of
- such quality, that their prices would be any less.
-
- I would suggest that perhaps this be put into the FAQ: "Why are prices
- for some Commodore equipment so expensive?"
